What should you eat after a workout??

This is a question that we get alot here at Urban Playground - everyone wants to know how to maximize the benefits of their challenging workout!The best foods to eat after a workout are

a high amount of healthy carbs, medium amounts of protein, avoid alot of fat and drink lot's of liquids. This helps your muscles return to normal and recover by replenishing your muscle glycologen stores. The best healthy carbs to eat are fruits, vegetables (leafy and green are best!), whole grains, cereals that are low in sugar/high in fibre/some protein, brown rice and whole wheat or brown rice pasta. The best protein sources are lean meats like chicken, turkey, fish and eggs, low fat dairy, nuts, legumes and soy in moderation. And finally you may have already heard of something we like to call water - it is the BEST way to rehydrate! So drink water, more water and water! In order to replace lost potassium, calcium, sodium and chloride due to lot's of sweating I'd recommend low sugar sports drinks, an average portion size of fruit juice and oh what the heck how about a little more water?! Ideally you want to eat/drink within an hour of your workout, or until you are feeling well enough to do so.

Eating properly will make all the difference when you are exercising to obtain your health, fitness or weight loss goal. So get out there and have a great workout and eat well!
